Why Yahoo is destined to fail
Let me use my business experience to be a bit of fortune (or sfortune) teller by providing few comments on your services.
Common free email platforms such as yahoo et all are mainly used by sole traders, nomadics, and consultants. While the yahoo email is retained as personal one the key activity is to receive on one account the email from professional emails (the like ...@company.com). Unfortunately this service is only available for other common platforms (the like ...@gmail.com) in other words of not any use. I tried several time to implement a business email with no success. In other words by doing this Yahoo management is neglecting a new megatrend born since pandemic focusing the company on old customer rather than new
Let's keep talking about emails, you have set a very nice yahoo app. I guess the justification is for the people on the go, which is quite right lot's of people is on the go and less and less staying in the office or working for a single company. However, people on the go communicate with friends, families and sometimes with customers with other means not via email (such as whatsapp). The email remains the official business communication, many times requiring attachments or other, and is performed by sitting on the desk and focusing on the fruitful business. By diverting the settings focus on your app you are just getting the business people flying away from your platform
Another good service Yahoo provide is Finance lot's of people adopt the platform for their own trading decisions. There is a large indication of WW stocks, for example UK and IT stocks. However your programmers are spending thousands of hours to implement functions of doubts support to the trader. Let's say I set up my own portfolio of stock then on top of the portfolio there is a useless (it cannot be called differently) chart showing the portfolio performance vs the ^GSPC. Who does really care about S&P500 performance when stocks have such low correlation with that? of course your clever engineers have not implemented the reference choice. Some portfolios for example would need a FTSE100 as reference.
In the same platform it is possible to download very good historical data, thanks you very much) but guess what much of the data from main stock page cannot be extracted. As consequence we small traders, the one reading the advertisements in your pages, are forced to redirect on google finance.
Finally according to the majority of post i read in various thematic blogs your platform it's so easy to be hacked that is running everyone away.
So in short Yahoo is neglecting the new potential customers, the old customers and providing no cyber security, how long Yahoo will last?
