Limit obsessed nut-cases/multiple Ids/scripts from crowding out others

Study AMD message board for the last 30 days. Same obsessed nut-case has been using multiple ids to flood the message board and/or reposting old messages, and/or replying to his/her own messages with either same message or gibberish, and/or attaching script-generated replies, etc. The obvious purpose is to keep the nut-cases posts visible in the first three pages or so all the time. This kind of abuse makes the discussion board less of a discussion board!
A simple throttling rule can prevent the abuse:
-same id must wait at least 20 minute before reporting or replying
-use a captcha system to prevent robots from posting
-ids coming from same ip-address must not be able post more than, say, 10 posts per hour ( this will make multiple fake Id technique virtually useless)
-newly created ids must wait at least a day before it should be allowed to post (if it is coming from an ip address from which some number of posts have already been used)

It's still "under review". Yahoo: do something to ban the IP address of these serial offenders who just assume a new ID when the old one gets banned. I'm sure it's more difficult to obtain a new IP address than just morph into a new alias and continue spamming a board with dozen of nonsense or attack messages.

      • PhilPhil commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

Feedback Forum? For who Yahoo, are you giving any feedback or is this just another venue for the idiots and hackers to come and carry their trash to another one of your departments?
I bet Yahoo's employees would love to see their stock go higher. Never happen with investors having to put up with this nonsense let alone security issues.

        Good luck Yahoo...

You have nut cases and others posting SPAM on hundreds of boards. There has got to be a way to take down repeated posts and block the IP address if they do not stop.

"Not real" interesting, a new ID today in the misson to make AMD pro posters look bad OR slander others like monkey2 does? I didin't create that ID, I think one of your buddies did from the AMD board. Maybe you should ask him?

      • ruckpralruckpral commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

And now they have created a new ID for me, "ruckpralhumpschickens" or ruckpral-HUMPS-chickens! In all there hate, this is how they retaliate with their **perversion***, because they hate anyone who reports them or starts threads how they ruined the AMD message board with abuse. Does anyone really care? Well..look at what they done here AT THESE THREADS and they are getting away with it!

      • ruckpralruckpral commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

Did everyone see what "monkey2" is doing right now? This is why this thread was started in the first place, hating bashers from the AMD board, like monkey2...or his other ID "yourbestfriendintheworld"...now they come here to flood this place with more hate and bashing. Let him keep breaking TOS, yahoo..I'm sure everyome is really enjoying all of this. I'm sure they are!

      • ruckpralruckpral commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

And now they come HERE to attack me from AMD board! Can't you see the rage and hate from "monkey2", he is out to get even. He IS hiding the IDs he uses at the AMD board to hide his abuse here. Believe me, this guy has posted 1000s of post that break TOS rules under his "other" AMD Ids.These ARE the type who post at the AMD board and because their posts get deleted, this is their way of payback. I will keep reporting their abuse and "monkey2" for harassment and hope others join in to report this abuse he has brought right HERE as well. These forums were made to make things better and look how he has abused them.

The media spilled the beans on Yahoo. Yahoo abuse team works out if their homes. That means they must goof off alot it's as reasonable explanation as ant why abusive posts are't deleted no matter how many tomes it's reported. Look at the CRNT board in Finance and tell me ehy that board has NEVER been cleaned up!

        Very good post.
All aforementioned limitations will be very useful if technically can be applied.

That is an amazing post "shills", it sure is whole lof of nothing for the time you spent posting it. Do yourself a huge favour and read the above thread starter and save both your time and embarrassment. Unfortuately for you "AMDSHILLS" the problem with the AMD Yahoo! board doesn't tie in to all that "gibberish" you just posted, it lies with what JD posted very clearly-read below AGAIN as it is the truth. If this is your answer to the "obsessed nut-cases-scripts from crowding out others", you will have to dig a lot deeper. Actually, the most funny part is of that amazingly entertaining post is that it IS something that intel would absolutely participate in and 100% endorse. But the above thread starter is a simple one of explanation, just a bunch of intel fanboys that abused the AMD board and are back crying with their sour grapes. And why? Because they can't do what they were doing before, and that's HUGE abuse.

So here is where ir0x0r and AMD worked together to devise their targeted stealth marketing. He is very experienced at organizing these kind of parties and was well-known for organizing many AMD LAN events. The perfect fertile breeding ground for budding shills.

And ir0x0r made sure to ruin ABT's relationship with Intel with his interview with Dessau. When we asked what was happening, he said this:

"I vote . . . for taking the obnoxious road and getting as much exposure as possible. Intel won’t be helping us financially so we may as well get into bed with AMD."

By then we had figured it out and he was shown the door. But not before he gave us his viral playbook

The AMD Viral Playbook according to ir0x0r
According to ir0x0r, the perfect candidate for a shill was a young college student. Someone who already was a big AMD fan and someone who was already active at the tech forums. Someone who was "respected" as an alpha male. He would scout them out especially at LAN events which were his specialty and he would give the deserving guy something; perhaps a mid range video card or a CPU.

After the event, he would exchange emails and after second contact was made, would suggest that he "tell his friends" about the experience. He monitored the new potential recruit's posting very carefully to see if their return on investment (RoI) was paying off. If the new guy was just a blabbermouth and bragged about his new prize, he was dumped. If instead, the new recruit started enthusiastically posting about his new AMD hardware, then the email/PM contacts would continue and there would be (mostly) promises of future hardware.

Entire viral "campaigns" were carried in this stealthy manner. And the example of the current one at the time were exemplified by the postings that showed up at several tech forums all about the same time - "My $100 Quad-Core CPU" was their stealth campaign. Several posters started to post at different tech sites almost simultaneously about their success at unlocking the Phenom 550-X2 (and 720-X3) turning it into a Phenom II QuadCore. They actually cut this campaign short when ABT tossed ir0x0r out.

You can see today that the same poster will post here at ABT; post at ATF under another name as well as at HardOCP and OCN (for example). Yet they are pretty obvious by their system specs, the manner in which they post, and the fact that these guys at a higher level are organized. They communicate by email and PM.

It's a simple playbook. Seed the forum posters with hardware and encourage them to talk about it. They made it a science and now Edelman - already experts in Viral marketing and caught making fake blogs - have teamed up with AMD - and their former employees are now Edelman employees.

        Today - AMD and Edelman
Edelman is AMD's PR company and many of AMD's recently-fired marketing department now works there doing PR for AMD in San Francisco and in New York.

Edelman is AMD's PR company and they have already been busted for stealth marketing

Clearly AMD employees are allowed by AMD to post at tech forums without disclosing their company affiliation. And of course, AMD does not require that their employees do so. This is unethical and ABT is asking AMD for transparency. Worst of all in our opinion, there is no denial of the accusations over at the other forum. Just apathy, ridicule and misdirection. According to their posts, the very same thing that they they decried as immoral just 5 years ago is now OK.

I spoke to someone that works at Yahoo in Santa Clara but not on the record.

They know scripts are being used to report abuse for threads that do not merit it in the forums. Thought originally was that community would self regulate. They know it does not work now.

Proxy server uses by the scripters make it challenging to catch them, but not impossible, coupled with analytics and post patterns.

They have a small staff with a backlog and a list of features to get done. This is not the only feedback loop they have by the way.

        JD;

You are right, you don't really see those who are in favour of AMD (they call us "pumpers") flooding the intel board with non stop bashing garbage. Did you notice they they ALWAYS call a pro AMD post a "pumper", amazing! You point out the posters below with threads they started at the AMD board, these are the everyday typical post which they call THE TRUTH and WITHOUT these ridiculous, insulting and gross post, they keep telling everyone here at these feedback forums, they are here ONLY or at the AMD board to tell the ***truth**, this is what they call the truth, just look down below. AND they wonder why AMD posters start threads such as this one complaining about them???? The posters here against me that are full of rage and hate, are the SAME authors as the ones you reposted below, ONLY they come here hiding behind different ID's..example: bebo LMAO etc. You can tell right off because they are VERY opposed to any change to stop their abuse. JD, your post was the defining reason why so much discontent from AMD posters, WELL said! Basically, ANYTHING we post that even has a hint of a more optimistic view of AMD, we are automatic classified as "pumpers" and 'Liars"! Did you also notice that any PRO AMD post gets **WAY MORE** thumbs down, even if it's the truth and no bashing??? What does this tell you, the AMD board is full of intel shills or ANTI-AMD posters who I call AMD haters. They have basically ruined the AMD message board.

July --You pointed out a very good example of problem trolls at work with your JASO and SOL examples.

bebo -- "I see AMD fanboys flooding the board to pump their lies and doing it with automation."

Lies? Childish at times yes, lots of useless posts with no value sure, but lies?wishful thinking sure, but that happens on the intel board also. Ever looked at the Intel board as a comparison? Pumping with half truths there also(mostly against ARM though). One thing you do notice is, no AMD fanbois bashing Intel on their board, at least not that I saw. Lots of boards have resident pumpers, in my experience. Pumping posters are easy to spot, and I don't need self appointed vigilantes to protect me from them. The ARMH board seems very civilized, I have to say. I don't own shares in any these companies, so really not going to take too much interest in any of this. What made me notice was the amount of nonsense going on in some forums similar to what I have seen in ones I follow. The AMD board was the worst one I have seen.

Automation? When I checked into the AMD forum more than 6months ago, the AMD bashers where "one-staring" posts with great abandon, which could have been with automation and defiantly lots of fake ID's. They had no problem driving pro-AMD posts into the dirt, they were "bhahaha-ing" all over the forum. Now things have changed, they possibly are getting thier posts removed and now complain. To me it looks like sour grapes for the Anit-AMD crowd, they no longer can use the power of one-staring any posts they didn't like and are now still trying it with the thumbs down. They now no longer control the AMD message board. Look at the posts from the last few days, there are more thumbs down provided by the Anti-AMD group than the pro-AMDs. One pro-AMD posting has 82 thumbs down to 49 thumbs up. Your comment doesn't include the ones doing the most "automation"

They were also posting about intel profusely on the AMD board, there is an Intel forum for that. Seen this same thing happen in rare earth message boards, stock pumpers posted their favoured stock details in all the other competing mining company's message boards. That is a TOS on any reputable moderated board.

The anti-AMD crowd do not get my sympathy, evidence below bashing the AMD message board with childish abandon. If they had always posted in a useful constructive manner that would be one thing, but garbage like below? Give me a break. Act like this and you deserve to have your messages deleted and be banned permanently.

Yahoo this has gotten to be out of hand on these solar boards. Please look at poster ninesucks now nonstop posting minute by minute on JASO & SOL Board. At least 100 Posts just today. Please help with obsessive board posters monopolizing these boards.

        Thanks

I didn't see it going "both" ways, you specifically point out "keeperoftheq" as "flooding" pages at the AMD board, a non intel fanboy, but no mention of the intel fanboys who are involved in flooding the AMD message board. That's my feedback, you got a problem with that?

      • bebobebo commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

My point is that it goes both ways, actually.

        Are you complaining about that?

This is a feedback forum, right? Got a problem with that?

      • ruckpralruckpral commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

What JD is saying is that its bad enough how they attack any post not by a intel fanboy, but now these bashers even come to these forums and spread their hate as well. Any topic complaining about AMD abuse, then this place is now a "bashing forum"...wonder what Yahoo thinks of this? Yahoo, you guys still around? JD, very good post.
