Why not create an automatic system whereby offensive, lying, racist posts that receive a specified number of negative ratings "disappear"?

As it stands now, the main problem you have is that Yahoo is allowing the most vile, psycho haters to participate on and on without being ejected in a timely fashion.

I have witnessed the most extreme posts that are so offensive that every normal human being would be greatly offended.

Yet, your Yahoo Censors are not responding at all. You don't have any good way to contact you to let you know that you have a psycho running loose on your forum.

You should have a hot line, or fax number or email address, something to allow you to be notified that you have an extremists prowling around creating havoc and hate and threats.

Some of the posterss are very sick and criminal, harming children even. Yet they are allowed to get away with the post endlessly.

You really need to come up with a solution that allows for Yahoo to be notified quickly of the psychos and sicko trolls that are destroying your own creation here.

All I know is your current abuse report link is not working and has not worked and is useless and a joke.

I have had death threats ,obscenities and my account hacked ... abusers use several screen names and if they don't like you post they hit the thumbs down and your posts are deleted by yahoo..... go figure

This is a REALLY BAD idea.

Just look at the ACAS financial message board. There is an automated web-bot that thumbs-down or marks as abuse EVERY MESSAGE until Yahoo limit is reached and then Yahoo removes it.

Not only that, this web-bot is moving back in time and doing the same to old messages. At this point, Yahoo has removed all the messages back to October 2012 and more both new and old messages are removed every day.

At this rate, the entire history of ACAS messages will be deleted by the end of the year.

Please, Yahoo .. DO NOT automatically remove messages. Allow users to set their own filter and ignore.

I couldn't confirm it as you did. When the report button is clicked on, it says "Report abuse FAILED"...this isn't the first time this report abuse has failed-happens often. What was I reporting?? The typical AMD yahoo account holder basher saying "Like so many thing AMD he is( pervert and gay") with the user stated in the message! it's easy to find post like all day at the AMD board. Like I said BEFORE and as you can see, I'm sick and tired of years of garbage being allowed at your boards. I THOUGHT the idea was a FINANCIAL INFORMATIONAL message board forum to share thoughts. Sure, people disagree...but this is just a "bashing" forum that slanders, abuses and gross misuse of name calling profanity. This couldn't have been Yahoo's original intent.

Just confirmed, the correct path to handle offensive content is to report abuse!

      • MikiMiki commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

While technically possible and even simple, in practice people can play the system by ganging up against a particular poster, bullying it with negative rating into hiding!

A better system would be to rely on the Report Abuse. A post which is reported 10 times gets hidden, until reviewed by a moderator.

Of course people who misuse it will be punished or perhaps banished(?).

Anonymous is right! It would be to easily gamed by malicious groups! In fact, it's happening right now. It's amazing how one group of biased posters "bunch" together and within minutes...6 or 7 thumbs down by the same bashing group that is working against a particular stock. It just takes a bunch of people at work or some website etc to work together and make a post look bad in a unjustified way. Basically, if they see your ID that does NOT agree with this malicious group, they start down "thumbing" without even reading it. I can't believe how bad it has gotten at some of these message boards, AMD for one. Yahoo! READ these and look into it! Thanks

I've noticed atleast below the political news comments, any post that enough people disagree with (thumbs down) is hidden.
This is kind of unfair I think, and in a way it makes the user feel like he/she cannot participate if he/she doesn't agree with everyone else.

At the same time, there are some very vile posts on the boards, and i strongly think the language on these should be filtered with symbols (ie.. @#$%^) of the same length so the words can't be differentiated. Perhaps even overly sensitive filters to foul language wouldn't be going overboard.

It would be a good idea except it is too easily "gamed" by a malicious group, who could cause the best posts to disappear rather than the worst, simply by working in a group and giving negative ratings to good posts, to clear the board and make way for more spam and nonsense. I agree with its-my-dime on this one. Especially if it were automated.

      • its-my-dimeits-my-dime commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

The problem is that Yahoo issues unlimited ID's to criminals like the serial message board spammers. It is not unusual to see two dozen or more favorable ratings to a scam post, all coming from the same spamming ring. So it is conceivable that all of the negative posts can come from the same group who do not like the post because it criticizes them.

I have tried to post similar comments in the past and have been ignored.

Yahoo is a media leader and its allowance of racial, ethnic, gender, ****** preference and religious slurs on its message boards or, for that matter, anywhere on its other sites is absolutely reprehensible. Where's your sense of corporate social responsibility for God's sake? Or at the least, a sense of common decency?

I am certainly not a computer wizard but if your techies can track my purchasing habits then they should certainly be able to find away to filter and block comments that are hate based. You certainly seem to have no problem filtering out complaints about offensive posts. In truth I am surprised you let Mr. Stern's comment through.

Yahoo has an obligation to lead by example--exercise it!

At least the old message boards consistently let those of us who didn't wish to be subjected to hate mongering to block offensive messages and report abuse.

something has to be done - it takes Yahoo forever to get around to deleting trash posts.

I'm all for it. The revised boards have no effective means of controlling the junk.

Great idea - similar to the star rating system under the old boards.

      • Rob SternRob Stern commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

Bring back the rating system or create an automatic system whereby offensive posts that receive a specified number of negative ratings "disappear"
