Portfolio editing improvements
I am asking once again..can you make it easier to add, delete and reorder symbols on my Portfolio? I have the feeling I ma not the only one who's having hard time doing basic editing with new Portfolio. Thanks for allowing people to post on this Forum, I hope someone is reading it.
Somebody over there get on the stick and clean it up!
In an ideal world, I would like to see the Portfolio functionality have two things added: (1) I could add multiple cost bases for the same stock (for example if I bought 50 shares of XYZ stock at $35 and 25 shares of XYZ at $45, I could enter both blocks of stock and have Y! finance keep track of loss/gain. As it is now, I can only enter one cost bases. (2) If you could make the Portfolio easier to use on a mobile device.
please maker it easier to edit my future symbols(such as where the date changes every quarter) with having to delete the older futures symbol and add the new one, and then i have to drag it down to put it in the order where i want it. that's to much , or is there a better way?.
I should be able to edit the symbols in my portfolio at the order place that it occupys.
I can change order of Symbols, but it does not sav that way back on my home page. Indexes get sorted to the bottom, opposit of what I want.
For each portfolio, add line for cash.
Need a Portfolio Page that totals all portfolios and shows combined total dollars gained or lost at any moment.
See above
Please add a cash line.
Please suggest a way to get back to old view!! Many stocks in this new version do not get updated! Would like to have the old view back as it enables me to have a larger no. of stock views.
Include ETF & Mutual Fund fees - Annual Report Expense Ratio (net) in the Detail section of Customize Current View in Manage My Portfolios to aid in sorting costs for cost purchasing comparisons.
Thanks, Rich
I dont know how to delete a view in my finance page....there is not customize current view button to click....!
Your Finance site has been broken for months. Next to impossible to access portfolios along with no response clearly means nobody at Yahoo is listening! Forget your line "we are listening"...you clearly are not! Time to leave yahoo.
THERE SHOULD BE A MORE CLEVER WAY TO ADD AND DELETE MORE THAN ONE ITEMS.
Import portfolios please
But how do you send it????
averages should be moved to the top of stock prices
Instead of having X's to remove symbols that users click on one at a time and then have to click again to remove. Why don't you make "check boxes" so users can check multiple symbols at once and delete them all at the same time? Just replace the X's with little check boxes and allow deletion of multiple symbols.
obviously the site is not a fundamentalist-style trader. Really not worth looking at that part of the portfolio
Before one could enter a block of symbols and quickly create a portfolio and changing the order was easy, just move the symbols around. Try inserting a symbol into a portfolio, now a user has to reorder the entire portfolio numerically one at a time. So if someone has 30 stocks they have to move 20 numbers around to insert a symbol in position 20 say. The person who made this change clearly does not create portfolios.
revert back to ollder versions of editing
I would like to be able to pull out sectors or industries like "pharma' or "consumer discretionary" out of my larger portfolio and look at those only at times. There doesn't seem to be a dropdown in your customizable identifiers to select for sector and/or industry.
The reorder function is busted. The edit holdings function is busted. Pretend that it is important to make your software work the first time.
Dragging a ticker is slow especially when you have a long list of stocks, and entering the number of the order you want DOES NOT WORK.
How about a simple -- order by ticker, order by name.
In the "older" version of Yahoo Portfolio, I could Add, Edit and Reorder symbols within the same screen. Regrettably, this capability is no longer available in the new Yahoo Portfolio... Could you please include this capability again
TO GET THE ABOVE TO WORK.......... CANT EDIT STOCKLIST YES I DID WHAT YOUR PAGE SAID GET IT TO WORK OR GET SOME ONE TO FIX SAME. I BET YOUR NEW CEO COULD FIND SOMONE TO FIX IT......
Very confusing and difficult to navigate and add, delete symbols to portfolios, also confusing and hard to EXIT. MAKE IT EASE TO EDIT
Were are the fields I used to see - titles are there (Trd Date,Notes) but no data is displayed.
Add a field for comment/description
I don't know if it's technically feasible, but if editing could be done on the portfolio page and then saved at the end of session or manually, with name + date.
I found it very difficult to reorder the stocks in my portfolio. The drag and drop feature only goes as far as the bottom of the screen. If I want to move the stock to the bottom of my portfolio, I have to drag and drop several times. Furthermore, after the dragging, the drop goes very slow, it seems to take foreever and sometimes it just won't work. I tried the enter- the- number- for- the- position-and- save feature, it didn't work either. I really miss the former feature of just entering the ticker symbols of the stock to the list--it was so easy to use. I would appreciate it very much if you would please fix the enter-the-number-and-save feature because conceptually it sounds much faster. Although if you could restore the former feature that would be ideal.
The users should be able to order the symbol in the portfolio, also should give the user the option to view how many stocks in a view, right now it only provides the fixed order and fixed amount of symbol can be shown
Total current portfolio value
Historical value by day or at least weekly
Similar to on line stock price history charts
t might be easier for first time users to figure out how to delete a symbol if you lable the column with the X's DELETE.
The way to manage / edit / move my portfolio is really a pain in the behind. I have now try not to even edit my portfolio at all.
Please make a 1,3,& 5 year annual return on investment column to add to my portfolio so I can see how much percentage I am up.
Restore old functionality. I am not having problems with add/delete which others are finding.
You could just list the next anticipated quarterly earnings date by month and date, i.e., 1/27 for Jan. 27th.
this option no longer works always get message that Portfolios are under maintenance Better than having to add one at a time.
Previously you had a box at the top of the portfolio page containing all the symbols in that portfolio. It was easy to select all the items and copy them to a new portfolio. Now there seems no way to enter symbols into a new portfolio except laboriously one by one. This has made portfolio management much more difficult than before.
This page is Extremely UNusable. To figure out how to edit/add/remove the Symbols in my portfolio is extremely Non-intuitive. Please fix that. I'm a > 10 year user of Yahoo finance and would be forced to move on to other sites.
be able to go back in time with your portfolio
I'd really like to see a performance chart/graph for my whole portfolio. Also, within that chart, calculated yields for time periods like you have for individual stocks.
Need to be able to see and edit the symbols as a simple text list, as used to be possible to do.
When we click on a forbes posting the font is so small it is impossible to read. Also many of the posting require you to buy a membership before you can read the posting.
my idea has already been expressed through others. eliminate day and time from ex-dividend and dividend dates to enable adding more data to the portfolio a simple date format mm/dd/yr is adequte for thes columns.
I hate the new Portfolio, why did you take out the "edit/view transaction", it was so much easier to edit transactions.
Also I'm not able to add any cash items, what happened?
Why do you update things that WORKS
When we add a new symbol say "YHOO", it allows us to add only when you specify the amount of shares you bought and what price you paid for it, which should not be the case.
There is a workaround for it, when you add a symbol put share as 1 and price as 1 and then it will show this symbol under your portfolio. Once done click edit and select the shares as 0.
So adding symbols to the portfolio should be easy and quick.
1. Combine the Edit and Manage All functions into one page.
2. Combine Reorder and Add/Edit functions into one page.
3. Provide the ability to download a portfolio in the custom view.
Make the "Analyst Opinion from the stock quote page available in one of the standard portfolio views or in the the custom view.
Allow the selection of Analyst Opinon as a field in a protfolio.
Take me back to my old portfolio. Entering short option positions was actually possible.
Add capability to alter data (such as purchase price) without going through the transaction function. When I try to adust a purchase price it changes cash which then needs adjusting. Very cumbersome. A blend of the old and the new would be perfect.
It's been almost year since I've been able to arrange my portfolio on my homepage in an order that makes sense. Alphabetical order for stocks is useless for seeing sector trends. The sort feature for the portfolio doesn't work!
Add actual open date or purchased date on every stock in portfolios. The present trade date is almost useless bc there are no entries for dates purchased. The info is invaluable to invesrtors compared to the current trade date that only rearranges the order of entries.
Make it easier to delete a stock.
your portfolio page changes of months ago really stinks. I find it impossible to update my portfolios.
Make the "edit" link do what it claims to do!
Upon symbol removal-revert back to spot where symbol was previously located. Currently, sent to top of portfolio,
Return to basics including the finance greeting page, lack of ex - dividend dates in portfolios. Ability to delete and order symbols in portfolios.
once a category is cancelled, make it easier to retrieve it.
I couldn't find the option for adding symbols. could you make easy or go back to old setting?
CSV file would contain SYMBOL, PRICE, SHARES, DATE OF PURCHASE
Can you create alerts for all stocks in a portfolio as opposed to entering individual stocks from a portfolio one at a time. If I am updating a portfolio I should be able to select the whole portfolio to set up alerts.
Just add a refresh button.
It is a major puzzle as to how you add/delete symbols. I have no idea how I even did it the first time. This is ridiculously hard
Revert back to the previous way of editing portfolias whereby new ticker symbols can be added, deleted, or reorded quickly and easily on one screen. the current method is cumbersome, time consuming and downright ugly.
Thanks
Put the boxes down a column, check off which ones need deleted, then hit update. Bang, all done with one reload of page
you have to open the portfolio, and then edit the holdings. The add stock to a portfolio should add the stock to the portfolio without having to enter the symbol again in add holdings box.
Portfolios should be able to contain both stocks valued in USD and EUR (at least). Portfolio charts are terribly missing. Comparisons of your portfolio with selected indexes or stocks would also be very helpful. Look forward to seeing all these come true and thank you in adavnce.
There are times when the 'Customize current view' appears and other times when it does not.
When you go to change the "Reorder" tab and move Stock Symbols to a different order and click "Save" the new order is not saved but reverts back to the previous order.
# of shares x purchase price/share = total cost
My watchlist pages under the "My Portfolio" tab keeps refreshing every few minutes. This is very annoying becasue when it happens I loose my place on the page.
Just want to figure out how much stock I own, and how much bond I have, how much is us in stock, how much is outside of us in stock., thanks.
Dear Y! Finance users,
We read your comments and realize that some of you would like to have enhancements on your Portfolio manager.
Please continue to share your feedback and try to be as specific as possible in order for our engineers and designers to fully understand what new features they should review for consideration.

How do I move a security from one portfolio to another portfolio? Do I have to delete it and re-enter it again in another portfolio? Isnt there a way to transfer it from one to another?

Y! Product Support,
It used to be easy to delete portfolio stock symbols, and it was easy to add new symbols with price paid and date. Why did you make these basic portfolio management tasks difficult?
"Enhancements"??? "Be more specific"??? Please explain why these basic tasks are not designed well in you portfolio manager. What do you think "portfolio manager" means?
You are not listening. and I am tired of trying to use your product.

I was sent an email asking if this was fixed. It is still very broken, perhaps more so.
I added a symbol and it brought up the same page where it forces you to add it to the beginning of the list. This time it also added it twice. Then it forces you to go to yet another page to reorder the symbol, in a very tedious manner. What a joke.
The old system years ago was fine. There was a list of symbols in a box and you edited the list and its order right there.
Why did Yahoo break it?

I think it is ok, I don't reorder, add, delete often but the intuitiveness of it was not the best. Nonetheless I've been able to do it, thanks.

I've been trying to reorder my portfolio for months now, which puts me in the rather frustrated company of, it seems, everyone who has a portfolio at Yahoo, or at least the 75 others who have commented, so far, on this feedback page. I've been able to delete one stock at time, but haven't tried more than one. Like many on this on this page, I have to ask, Why did Yahoo mess up something that worked so well in the past?

It is not explained how to remove a stock symbol. There is no column name for the "X" column needed to be used to delete a stock symbol which I found after a half hour of trying several options. Please improve the information necessary to remove a symbol.

I can't reorder my stocks -- they always come out alphabetically; and I can't edit them to show new information, such as a sale or purchase of shares. I could do both easily in the past -- what gives?

1) Actually we can't delette companies in a portfolio when the company has disapeared from NYSE listing or change NYSE code... there is always a "warning/notice line" we cannot delette
2) To organize companies inside a portfolio at lesat by the order we want to do it ... is not possible when you have your number of share inside but is possible if there are not shares inside
3) To organize companies in portfolio by sector or country could be very intereting
4) To export to EXCEL correctely could be very useful -

I use Firefox 19.0.2 on a Mac Powerbook running OS 10.6.8. On my Portfolio Page, I am unable to delete individual stock rows. To do this I must use my iPad.
I know you guys are now working on improvements and asking for comments, and that alone portends well for better things ahead. Thanks.

I recently switched from Firefox to Chrome and noticed that the space taken up by the cells of the portfolio is much larger, I believe it's called the cell "padding", which means fewer fit on the screen at a time. This makes the view more disperse and also means more scrolling - can it be tightened or at least give us the option to space things the way Google does in its Drive directory?
I'm also with everyone else - adding/editing items to a portfolio should be much easier, perhaps a pop-out or something like: when you add something in the field marked Add Symbol, more fields appear beside it for Amount, Price, etc.

How does one DELETE a custom view? I used the Add Custom View button in hopes of creating a view with customized charts, but the "chart" is just the small icon-like type. There does not seem to be any way for me to delete this unwanted custom view.
Also, in Detailed view, the charts are well sized, but just simple. I'd like to be able to customize the charts in this view (such as with moving averages and other indicators) while viewing all the positions on one page. Please provide a means of customizing these charts, or of creating a custom view to enable viewing of all charts for portfolio holdings on a single page.
Thank you

Just read Rick's comments below about what he found using reorder. That is a very large well kept secret and his suggestion about getting into the oder number box and using arrow keys works and works FAST. Makes the system almost OK. Maybe an idea for Yahoo is to put the reorder function in with the Add/Remove function for portfolios that are not sorted alphabetically. Then put something in help for people who don't just accidentally read posts like this!
