Hi, please let us know how we can improve News further.

The automatic Report Abuse feature is being grossly misused!

The Report Abuse feature not only can delete a post, but has potential to put a poster's entire account in peril. There is a poster on the Dear Abby message board who has every post he makes reported for abuse, when there is absolutely no violation taking place. Is there any human review within Yahoo of the abuse before the account becomes imperiled? There is no way for the posters themselves to know who engages in this kind of cowardly action, only Yahoo can do it. You have a weasel loose in the ********, Yahoo. We need human review!!!!

... Sorry I mis-spelled "their" in the 3rd sentence of my last post here ... As a 6 yr combat vet ~ I get a WEE bit excited when encountering cowardly censorship of ANY kind, ANY where.

      • Donald Ullrich, Yuma, AZDonald Ullrich, Yuma, AZ commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

And FURTHERmore ... What is this CENSORSHIP thing all about ??! The Report Abuse tab is notoriously used by liberal posters who want to silence conservatives. Though a Constitutional Conservative mySELF ~ I would NEVER try to shut-up those who disagree with me via there posts. That the internet allows A-N-Y-T-H-I-N-G to come&go across the web ~ but our Yahoo Mail service feels they need monitor US as their "customers" is more than simply insulting. It is CENSORSHIP ~ and even insanely curious. They once "$#%$" me for writting that I had a B.A. "***" laude [ inSTEAD, I suppose, of they're more acceptable B.A. "with" honors !! Come ON, Yahoo ! We are all FREE-SPEAKING adult Americans here ... We don't need some faceless internet [ and WAAAY-too-liberalist ] geek-censor to "referee" discourse and viewpoints ...

The "Report Abuse" tab "bounces" directly above the "Show Comment" tab when a reader/poster wants to view a "comment hidden due to low rating" ! You can actually click your cursor on the Show Comment tab and inSTEAD get the Report Abuse tab !! Why doesn't Yahoo insert a double-click or double-verify methodology ~ much like they do when that ask us if we "really want to delete spam after we've already clicked that we DO ... ??!

why do you post negative things against an entire nation of people? Being born in a country doesn't make a person good or bad, so if you're posting hateful words against people born in any particular country i think that qualifies as abuse. not sure what this thread has to do with ANY foreign country at all.

I'm having the same problem! Yahoo needs to get their **** together, or they will lose "customers." I was on a thread where someone referred to Obama as a "tar baby" and his comment stayed up! But if i dared to say anything against Israel, I was deleted. Also, seems some people can manage to post their own comment with an automatic 3 or more thumbs up! Yahoo either needs to be fair, or get rid of the report abuse button altogether.

I too, have had comments deleted that were not in favor of Israel. While the pro Israelis can post repugnant comments against both Muslims and Palestinians without having their comments deleted. I have also had two email accounts shut down as well. Something needs to be done about this. Who's really in control here? If only one side is allowed to share their opinion, then only half of the story gets told. Maybe Yahoo needs to be boycotted.

I have had 3 successive accounts canceled and deleted in the past three weeks. The pro-Israel trolls continually make abusive statements toward anyone who disagrees with Israeli oppression of Palestine, yet they falsely report abuse by those they disagree with.

I have had both my accounts deleted, and my comments disappear within seconds of being posted. There is no "moderator" removing comments or deleting accounts after review..it is patently obvious this abuse report feature is totally based on a numerical threshhold system. And a very low threshhold at that. Yahoo enabled this feature last year for a time and there were so many complaints it was discontinued. I hope Yahoo will reverse this in the interest of fairness and free speech.

In the Israel news stories, the JIDF trolls and the PRO ISRAELI contingency openyl flaunt the ability to have mine and many others posts deleted almost immediately. As well, if I do have say 1,000 posts then the next day I have 800. They troll me all night and delete my comments.

It is true. I am everyman3@ymail.com. I had my previous account deleted after 16 years for NO REASON. I can type Mary had a little lamb and I love israel and it is deleted immediately... Israel pays internet posters and bloggers to DELETE our comments and to muddy the waters in favor of israel...

        I hate israel...

actually, i DON'T trust you because my experience is the opposite of what you have described. i have never received any warning at all from yahoo regarding any of my posts. i had my account for 7 years with no problem, and suddenly lost it, no warning at all. upon contacting yahoo once i created a new account, they said it was due to a terms of service violation and the matter was considered closed. i asked what specifically i did wrong, they refused to answer. so i created a new account and that lasted less than 2 weeks, perhaps a couple dozen posts if that. again no warning and boom, that was gone too. now on my 3rd yahoo account and hoping beyond hope that with over 200 votes in a short period of time, i will get an explanation from a yahoo employee rather than some stranger who says, "trust me"

Abuse Reports should always be kept confidential and the reporter kept known only to Y! There are no "automatic" deletions of comments or accounts. Trust me, I'm an expert on this particular aspect of Y! and their properties. All deletions are by human review and the TOS are comprehensive about certain behaviors, and there is wiggle room built in to them to allow staff to either let slide certain things that are not abusive in analysis, but to drop the hammer on other stuff that is subtle but part of a long term pattern of abuse. the number of abuse reports filed against an account can trigger a deeper look at the account, and then the poster is more often warned in writing than deleted. that's how it works, though some boards have their own moderation, and they can do what they wish to do, just like admins of groups are free to do nearly anything they like and make any rules they wish.

if a person gets reported often and nothing is going on wrong, it really doesn't matter if they know about it, because nothing is coming of it. deletions happen when they are warranted. human review already exists.

It wouldn't be the trolls driving me away, but the automated system. Like i said, I lost an account I had used for 7 years. I had over 50 contacts of fellow adult babies and Daddies, the vast majority that I have lost forever (yes, I know, my fault for not saving the addresses in a spreadsheet or someplace else) I have been able to make contact with 5 of them since, but I just don't ever want to go through that ever again.

I voted yesterday afternoon, and Yahoo deleted my post. I support Diapey! The "comments" sections on Yahoo are filled with racial insults and outright threats, and nothing is done about them. Diapey posts his off-the-wall but frequently humorous comments, and his entire existence is threatened by Yahoo's automated system. That isn't right. I don't agree with much of what DIapey says, but I have never seen him attack a race, religion, or political entity. Stick with us, Diapey! Don't let the trolls drive you away.

      • UlaUla commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

Diapey, honestly, go too far and I'll definitely flag your comment, as I would blatantly racist comments made purely to flame the board, spam, and so forth. I know how to be impartial. I have favorite posters I've TD'd or adamantly disagreed with. There are lots of comments I don't like, but I don't report them, I mainly report spam and I sometimes report our resident racist when he comes out to play a little too vigorously, but that's it. I've never flagged someone just because I don't like what they have to say. I suspect a number of regulars are just like me. We believe in free speech and know the difference between what is merely offensive versus what is truly abusive. Maybe Yahoo will consider one volunteer moderator at a time, with a panel of Abbyland moderators to consider a temporary suspension, with a final say by Yahoo when we present an case for account deletion. While no system is perfect, these are issues we can deal with if Yahoo would give us a chance.

      • DiapeyDiapey commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

that would be helpful, if we got a dedicated, volunteer moderator for JUST the Dear Abby board, but I don't see that being something they would agree to. If they chose ANY single one of our 'regulars' to be that moderator, how could that person be fair? Would i then get a free pass for every single thing i post just because i'm me? and then someone new posting the same thing would suffer consequences? that seems to be a real danger. all of the regulars have people they like and those they don't care for. it makes sense that friends of the moderator will be specialized treatment and that isn't a good thing either. The best outcome is a dispassionate moderator who doesn't play favorites. How do you get someone like that free of charge? I don't have the answer to that.

Yahoo being random is not a good business model. I have, in the past, emailed advertisers and told them what Yahoo is doing next to their ad, and that I won't be buying products from companies that are paying Yahoo to support someone making racist comments.

      • UlaUla commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

Diapey, we not only support you, we support the safety of our Abbyland community (of which you are a colorful, accepted part.) Watcher suggested our board deserves a live moderator and I'm sure I'm not the only one who would volunteer to do this for free. If you'd rather do the email route, I certainly understand your reasons, and I'm up for that. But more importantly, we are taking a stand in your defense against the stalker troll. I hope Yahoo is up to the job.

      • DiapeyDiapey commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

I am diapey, and while I am surprised and grateful for the support, i want to say that i certainly do NOT want yahoo to hire human moderators for the message boards if the costs involved would mean that others would have to pay money, or there would necessarily need to be even more advertising to pay for the human monderator(s). I will say that I would greatly appreciate a response from a human being at Yahoo to explain why the majority of my posts, no matter how benign, end up being completely removed. I do not believe it's warranted at all and the true person/people being abusive are the ones that report my every post. If I can get assurance that my account is safe, i will resume posting, if not, i will see if maybe we can just get an email list going and we can just have an Abby discussion via email? if interested let me know here
